Obituary of Andy Schertzer

SCHERTZER, Andy Peacefully passed away with his loving family by his side at Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the age of 98. Andy has been reunited with his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary (2012). Loving father of Andy (Janie) and Trudy (Danny) Novak of Brantford. Cherished Grandfather of Shawn (Joanne) Novak, Greg Novak (Tina Noble), Natalie (Tony) Palermo, Laura (Steve) Valvasori and Amie Huisman. Proud Opa of Owen, Griffin, Cali, Dylan, Samantha, Justin, Stella and Gavin. Andy will be missed by his family and by his many friends from his home at Ina Grafton. Andy was passionate about his family and he enjoyed gardening, fishing with his son Andy and playing his harmonica. Andy retired from the Port Weller Dry Docks in 1982, and he and his wife, Mary, were long time members of Grace Lutheran Church. He will be remembered as a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A special thank you to the staff of Niagara Ina Grafton Gage for their kindness and support over the past 13 years. Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Andy's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. with an hour of visitation prior to the ceremony. Burial to follow at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be given to Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village- Long Term Care.
